WI Recall Election: Deer Hunting an Issue?
Deer hunting and management have popped up as a sideshow in the highly charged Wisconsin recall election that’s coming up on June 5. Anti-Scott Walker forces are trying to turn union workers and others who love to hunt deer against the Governor. They are making some outlandish claims and using some questionable language:
Are you a “deer queer?"
“IF YOU HANG AROUND HUNTERS long enough, you are certain to hear the term “deer queers.” They represent a growing subgroup of deer hunters who eat, drink, and sleep trophy bucks.”
And…
If you want to preserve Wisconsin’s wild deer hunt you best go pull the “Stand with Walker” sign from your yard or face the Walker/Kroll future. You and your blaze orange dressed son or daughter will buy a ticket, if you can afford it, from a private deer farm for the right to hunt trophy deer.
I don’t live or hunt in Wisconsin, but I feel more than qualified to call out whoever wrote this. I have hung around deer hunters long enough--all my life and professional career--and I have never once heard the term “deer queer.”
And regardless of your politics, the assertation that the Governor and scientist Dr. James Kroll want to turn the entire state into a private deer farm is just ludicrous.
I doubt this rudimentary page and misleading and juvenile information will sway any votes. I hope not. comment
Whatever happend to ahhhhh the majority of people voted for this person, he won so the rest of you who didn't get your way, well wait until the next election!! Oh NO they come up with a bunch of B.S. and try and Recall! All of us "deer queer" gun toting republicans
will be out full force to make sure this Recall doesnt happen!
I am sorry but what a bunch of babies!!!
The teachers union is up in arms because Walker made them pay 5% into their own pention plan (the remaining 95% is paid by us, it was 100% paid by us)! The last time I check I pay 100% of my plan!!!! Oh and by the way my wife is a teacher so don't fight me on that :)
Enough said.
Kroll was a good hire by Walker. I agree that Texas isn't the best model for management purposes, but I would trust that Kroll wouldn't design Wisconsin's management strategy after the norms in his home state (widespread leasing with 0 public lands). I think it's good that they've got someone in there that knows how to properly manage a herd for the asset that it is. Anything is better than the previous biologists that implemented the widespread "earn a buck" program (that destroyed the herd and subsequently got them all fired).
I still don't like Walker whatsoever, but this was a good move by his administration.
