i'm getting out tomorrow. kansas weather has been wonderful (mid 60's). not sure if i'll find anything, but just being out doing some stump shooting and looking for some sheds will make my weekend. usually don't get out until end of feb. in kansas, but thought i might try my luck after seeing that steroided out thing.
YOW! Man, gotta live this year's shed hunting through this blog, and so far what a start! Nice find! I found a set of sheds yesterday...from probably the most mature buck left in my area (after last winter and blue tongue killed upper 90%)...unfortunately I found the buck that shed them five yards away from the pair of sheds. Probably a 4.5 year old buck. Hooves were peeling and half there...from last winter or an effect of EHD? Dunno, but that was depressing....at least this post and that rack brings a guy back up! What a gnarly rack!
Luke, Down our way, loose hooves are a symptom of EHD. Also, they often die just before or during velvet shedding time. i have found my dead deer from EHD near, or in streams or a source of water as if they are going into shock. Many areas, like yours suffered from the double whammy of winter kill and EHD/ Blue tongue. Really sorry for you guys in white tail heaven.
It was indeed found in Indiana and it scored 167 and some change! My best find ever but then again it's my first year shed hunting and that's all I've found! I can't complain! (still have yet to find my first shed!)
