Mike, love the blog, been following for a few years.
My wife, Tina, took her first deer recently. She's been accompanying me the past few years during the bow season here in Ohio. This was her first time sitting with a crossbow. We were nearly ready to pack up for the morning, having not seen a thing. Neither of us had been paying attention to the northeast part of our property, when this guy just showed up.
When we saw him he was less than 20 yards from our tree. We had dominant buck urine out, and he came in sniffing, possibly looking for a fight, and passed at 20 yards. Her shot was a little far back, but we knew it was a solid hit.
We waited on stand for about 30 minutes before packing up and heading to the house. After an hour my cousin's husband helped me track it. The buck ran about 350 - 400 yards and ended up in a creek ditch. I knew it was a good-sized deer, but didn't get the full understanding until we walked up on it. Huge!
We live and hunt on our 7 acres, and I've seen some real giants in years past. This guy's body was massive and it took us five minutes just to get him out of the creek (and that was after we'd field dressed it)! Haven't scored it yet, but I'm sure this is one Tina will remember for years to come. This large 8 is certainly an awesome first deer. Thanks for the blog and shows!--Aaron
Way to go Tina and Aaron, awesome job!
