i should start by saying i have to do some yardwork, which sucks, but since this is first weekend since we've seen grass in months gotta get some s@%t done. Am gonna make some time to shoot my bow, can't start practicin too early--only 7 months to bow season,
also i should say if u haven't read the last post on Chad's Ohio bowhunt you gotta do it, and then read the comments below, you'll learn stuff. man we got some hard-core hunters on the blog, thanks for your support
Mike, I gonnoa try to go shed hunting tomorrow and the obligatory yardwork. Wife was bitchin' because I left a snow shovel out. I got tired of dragging it out...through 2 feet of snow. If you ever need any help with the new piece of land, give me a shout. I have Fridays off & would love to help out. I don't have any where I hunt. Just shutdown jobsites.
Going to the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh, NC tomorrow. That is where all of the big bucks from NC are scored and shown off, as well as vendors, and even some of those big time TV hunters make an appearance. This year they got Lee and Tiffany Lakosky and Michael Waddell. A lot of guys are drooling over getting a picture with TIffany, but I could care less. I am going for the vendors, and to see some of the big deer shot here last year. Sometimes I forget that there are deer that big that actually live here. At the very least it will be inspiration to work hard.
David, I'm with ya on the Tiffany thing. She is cute, but my wife blows heat on her so I don't waste my time fantasizing. Plus, she's probably a better shot than me. If I want to be emasculated, I'll just go home. I think it's great that women are getting into the sport, I just see a need for the rockstars. I'll take Hancback. I feel I could have a beer with him or go to a football game. Not, ask for an autograph & picture.
Two more Saturdays of pheasant hunting at my hunting club. My black lab has been driving me crazy to get out. He knows I'm up to something when I go near the gun cabinet. The weather will be fantastic here in New Jersey. Looking forward to getting outside now that the snow has mostly melted. We'll start getting our plan together soon for our food plot. We have lots to do this spring to get it ready for next season. Only 199 days left until the bow opening day!
Myself, and 4 of my HRBP measuring friends had a deer scoring session in the NE corner of Indiana. Weather seems to be getting ready to break up here, but I'll bet we get at least one more snow storm before April arrives. I finally got to lay eyes on a monster 180-class typical buck that a friend and I filmed all summer long. It was taken by one of our scorers in the First, or Second of November. I measure 2 bucks that will go in the Hoosier Record Buck Program record buck. There was also one very unique looking N.T. with a large drop-tine (Sorry, Hanback). I didn't take any pictures, but may send some that the other guys took, just for kicks.
Shot a indoor state archery shoot Today. Then heading out with the family on our first outdoor 3-d shoot of 2010 Sunday. Hope the is not to deep!! Looking forward to turkey season, so will probably go scout some new properties after the shoot.
Was out this morning with my dad Russ trying to smoke some yotes...did five sets of calls and not a thing. Man its been a hard coyote season here in MI. Between me and my buddy John we usualy have a couple/few on the ground here by now but not this season. Cant get em moving. We still have about 8 to 12" of snow here. Dad and i found a spot where the deer have been yarding this winter by some state ground. I wish i had more time today to look for sheds cuz im sure we would have found some. Was close to 50 today and there is grass showing in some places! We also picked up dads mount of that nice 10pt he shot this past season with his x-bow...if that dont get you fired up to get back out and start shooting/scouting ect. i dont know what will!
My dog & I went shed hunting this afternoon. We had a blast wallking through the woods for 2 or 3 hours. Found my first shed. A small 4 point. I think I saw it before on the trail cam. I will check it out when I get to work on Monday. I'm new to the shed hunting, but this is gonna be addicting. The wife even said she will go with us next time.
Man I wish I was having as exciting a weekend as some of you. Had the oppurtunity to go coon hunting Friday night for the first time but one of my buddy's dogs got loose and he couldn't find him Friday night so he didn't go. He only has two coon hounds right now and I guess one don't hunt as good as two? Got up Saturday around 7 and started on schoolwork. Worked on that until almost lunch time. I was going crazy. For the first time in months it was a non-windy, warm day here and I spent 5 huors of the best part of the day stuck inside on a computer. AGH!!! That's why i love my job, even if it's nasty outside, I'm outside. I couldn't handle an office job. Anyway after that I went to visit my grandma, met my brother to eat lunch, got a haircut,(actually I got all the hairs on my head cut, not just one :) ). Then I came back home and washed my disgusting truck. It's a really pretty kind of reddish/burgundy colored Tacoma. Well for the last 3 months it has been a disgusting nasty road salt and grime covered grey mess. I couldn't stand it anymore. Then I went and bought a pair of shoes. Then my girlffriend and I went on a really nice date, first one of those in a while. And that was Saturday. I'm leaving for church in just a minute and after that I'm going to clean the inside of my truck out and then try to take the rest of the day easy. No shed hunting for me this weekend, no more rabbit hunting, no scouting, no food plot planting, no bow shooting. Just a boring weekend that more resembles one of a non-hunter. I CAN'T WAIT FOR TURKEY SEASON!!!!!!!!!!
went sheddn friday night and sat night nothing more scouting trips really to see where deer where got a huge corn field to go thru where i saw 45 feeding myb go tonight
Went to the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh, NC today, attended a turkey calling seminar by Marshall Collette. Had a great time, Classic was pretty good this year.
