Bennett Buck: Illinois, 237 Net P&Y!

Dear Mike: I always enjoy watching your show. I know how you love to bow hunt and thought you would enjoy this picture. My Buck of a Lifetime came sneaking by me in a funnel @ 27 yards on Nov. 6th in Fulton Co., Illinois. A soft grunt stopped him broadside. The  official P and Y gross score is 239 1/2.....net 237!!!  Take care and good hunting, Shawn Bennett

Shawn, what a monster, thanks, one of the top archery bucks of 2009 for sure. Three drops baby, awesome.

Gonna have to get this giant on VERSUS for sure.

Cody's Gravatar Hey Mike, I know you said you wouldn't call the one Luke sent in a drop, which IMO is beingt too picky :) but I think it's safe to assume you'd be happy to call those drops?? Haha

Awesome Buck, Almost as pretty as the one from Canada the other day.

deerprof's Gravatar Mike, consider this additional proof that Western Illinois is the place for drop tine monsters!

hanback's Gravatar i should add that this is a great picture of Shawn and his monster buck--no blood and gore, no tongue hanging out (the deer)
nice natural, uncluttered background, nice expression on Shawn's face, happy but humble and respectful of the great
animal he just shot; that is how u do it, strive to take pictures like that.

Curt's Gravatar I think I'd have to drop the hammer on that one. Only 2-1/2" of deductions on that monster. I wonder how old he was. Good job, Shawn..

Matt Elder's Gravatar Congrats man, what an awesome buck!! I love how he's just holding that thing up by that huge drop like its a kickstand or something. haha

Mack's Gravatar Truly is a great buck. As Mike, said a beautiful photo as well.

Cody's Gravatar Wow only 2 1/2" of deductions. Didn't pay any attention to the score the firt time. I wa just amazed at how nearly perfect it looked, from the matching split brows to the almost matching drop and kicker coming off the bases. Awesome deer.

Will's Gravatar What is the difference between pope and young and boone and crockett??

Kevin Root's Gravatar I agree, great buck and photo like Mike noted. It is definitely a wall hanger. It shows a lot of respect to the great animal harvested to take hunting photos without all the blood and gore and tongue hanging out. Just makes for a better photo to display and to capture a photo of a wonderful hunting adventure.

David in NC's Gravatar Hanback, when you finally get your drop giant, you need to hold his head up by the drop just for emphasis. That is kinda cool. Everytime I hear of guys killing a monster buck on X-date I always think back to what I was doing that day of the season.

No tail cat's Gravatar Great article, I think you covered everything there. . . I would say freelancing is quite hard especially if you are not used to working on your own, can be quite hard to motivate yourself also. . . we all know what it is like to stare at the monitor.
