Good News: Hunting License Sales UP 3.5%

National Shooting Sports Foundation says that 2009 license sales were up 3.5% in the 12 states it surveys. They speculate on why, but I don't speculate, I'm pretty sure I know why.

First, a lot of people who used to hunt deer but haven't in a few years because they've been working so hard to make ends meet lost their jobs or at least had their hours cut back last year, and so they had more free time to hunt, and so they bought a deer license and did it again. Any ya'll fall into this group?

Second, many people who still have a job but are watching their money saw deer hunting as a way to obtain affordable protein for a year, and so along with all the out-of-work hunters, more of them bought a license and killed a little buck and doe or two and stacked the freezer. That you?

Or did ya just buy a license like always and hunt like hell cause ya love it and can't live without it, which I suspect is the case with most of the bloggers here. comment

I just bought three license's like i do every year and hunted as much as i could. I do know that a lot of more guys were out this
year here in MI due to the X-bow being allowed.

Put me in the every year category, as I would suspect most of the other folks on here are. I didn't buy a license though - got the lifetime comprehensive hunting and fishing license. Best money you could ever spend.

I hunt every chance I get and hope to for the rest of my life. The meat is just the "gravy" for me. I have a great wife that doesn't give me a hard time because she understands the passion I have for the sport. She tells me all the time she wishes she had a hobby that makes her feel the way hunting does me. I start with bow and stop with the end of rifle. Hell, I'd trap'em if that was legal!

.., I have been trying deer hunting trips for years and i find it really thrilling and exciting... but you still have to improve more every day even if you already know this activity...

I filled the 5 antlerless permits that were made available to me and pasted on several good bucks that will be GREAT bucks this fall.
Not much changed for me, I still hunted like a mad man starting Oct 23rd and filled the last tag on Dec. 20th.
While I typically only put 1 deer in my freezer I put 2 in this year due to my son's deployment in Iraq. HE LOVES venison jerky!;)
