jstreet's Gravatar I'm still after it. I've seen several smaller bucks, but not the one I'm after. I've got Saturday and Sunday before the gun season portion
of the season is over.....

BTW, Congrats is due to Mike Hanback. According to Theoutdoorwire.com, A premiere episode of the new series Remington's The Buck Stops Here with Mike Hanback earned a .6 national HH rating, making it the highest-rated outdoor program in network history.

Way to go Mike!

indiancreekpsychopathic's Gravatar Shotgun season opens Monday here in Ohio. Been out with the bow a lot, but with all the corn still standing around where i hunt, it's been a difficult year.

Cody's Gravatar I said I got back on stand at 3:32 and not long after Iwas getting my antlers out to rattle. Well I shot the deer and pulled my phone out to call my dad and brother-3:38. So roughly 5 minutes of being in the tree. Quickest it's ever happened for me.

Tim Yarbrough's Gravatar Well, we're still at here in central triad of north carolina. I'm not real sure about the rut here, and I'm not trying to sound like a dummy, but this has been one of the weirdest seasons here that I can remember in my almost thirty years of hunting whitetails. And I truely believe that it is mostly been to the up and down weather patterns that have come through here. I myself got a kind of a late start to my hunting season, which was my fault, so I'm still hunting mostly with my bow, and I've only seen deer on 4 occasions since I started hunting this season. I'm not complaining at all about this, but one of my stands is in the woods close to the edge of some houses, so there has been at times some excessive noise which has spooked a pretty nice 8 point for this area, just far enough where I could not risk a shot because I'm pretty sure that I would not hit it good enough to kill it. So, I haven't risked the shot. So, while we're into regular gun season by a week now, I'm still trying to kill my first deer of the year with my bow because I have not purchased my new rifle yet, which is a long story in itself. So I'm hanging in there, because after everything is said and done, I'd rather be in the woods trying to get a shot at a whitetail any day of the week reguardless of what my weapon is than doing anything else cause its still better than anything else. And I've got until January 1st, so maybe I'll get lucky. Good luck to every hunter for the rest of the season whereever you my be hunting. Thank you, Mike for your blog and for your information and time that you devote to us "weekend warriors" . I know that you have helped me alot with your sharing of your knowledge and hunting skill.
Tim.

DougInWisconsin's Gravatar Probably done with the rifle for now even with two days left. Working all wekend and then onto the new house. Maybe I can sneak out tomorrow afternoon. Still hunting the two big boys I saw early in archery season. Still have to try and get my Dad something for the freezer too. We have a late anterless season in two weeks that we'll try and hunt for him.

Congrats Mike! Helluva accomplishment! Liked the Texas hunt with the evil camo rifle.

deerprof's Gravatar A tough year here in Illinois, the rain delayed the harvest, and we still have much standing corn. I saw fewer deer when in the woods
adjacent to standing corn in part because the deer presumably spent much of the day in the corn. I did manage to take two nice
bucks, both eight- pointers, with bow and slug shotgun respectively. But saw fewer deer overall than many previous years. As of last
week, I still saw rutting action, i.e., bucks chasing does, bucks wandering doe bedding areas, and etc, just not in the numbers we've
seen traditionally. So we have had to work hard for our deer this year, and the state kill is down several thousand from last year.
Second shotgun season this coming weekend.

Rodger's Gravatar Killed a doe opening weekend, the 7th, and a 9 pt. on the 21st. Biggest on our lease so far has been a 144" nine pt. killed on the 14th. Not the best of weather so far but as of the 21st the rut was still on but has probably wound down to nothing by now. We've killed 9 or 10 bucks and 6 or 7 does. That's a much better ratio than we generally see because, I think, of the new antler restriction law. I still can kill a deer with one unbranched antler but I think I'm trough for the year. We will definitely kill fewer deer this year. There are a couple of guys who have yet to kill anything and doe season is over as of tomorrow.

Cheyenne's Gravatar I killed a small four, but a monster is coming to my stand. The rut is over in Folkeston, Ga.

Mack's Gravatar Hey Deerprof in IL,
My wife is from IL (S. Chicago) and we were there visiting and I spoke with some local politicians and a retired police chief. They in formed me that to control the deer in the Forest Preserves and surrounding areas, the Parks Div. sends in sharpshooters with silencers to control the deer. Several Piebald and what they say were albinos, that were seen for several years all went missing. As another example of wanton waste of a resource, they just bury the deer instead of donating to a food bank or food for the hungry. In the south hunters donate thousands of pounds of venison to the needy organizations. Also, this is done on the quiet to keep the anti's and PETA folks from interfearing. WHAT A WASTE! What do you know, if anything about this?

Tom's Gravatar This is my 2nd hunting season in southern NC and has been pretty good. Opening day of gun season Iharvested a 4 1/2 year old 8 point. I didn't hunt again until early November, and caught the pre-rut phase. I shot a nice buck the 2nd week of November but pulled the shot slightly, wounding the animal. I wasn't able to recover due to it crossing over into land I wasn't able to access. The rut hit pretty hard here beginning the week before Thanksgiving, unfortunately I couldn't hunt it due to work. Thanksgiving week I spent hunting in south central Tennessee on family property which has prodcued good results in past years. Unfortunately, I didn't see a deer until day 4 of the hunt. My hunting buddies are out this week and are telling me that it is the tail end of the rut. I'll be out this weekend and some next week. Hopefully I'll connect again. By the way, love your work.

mike's Gravatar the rut is over here in southeast virginia and the still hunting is very slow. Dog hunting is pretty much the only way we are seeing any deer and even still no big horns within shotgun range. i would like to see you guys do a show on deer hunting with dogs if there is any chance of that?
